An Operating System is the software that communicates with the hardware of a computer system and works as the intermediary between applications and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it transfers requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). A lot like a personal computer, web hosting servers also have an Operating System which functions as a host for all of the software installed on them, including script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etcetera. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you can install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

We provide as many as three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the safest and the most reliable OSs on the market and we provide all 3 instead of just 1 as we realize that you may want to install some software which has specific requirements regarding the Operating System it will run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there are different software applications you can install on the server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS if you want to use one and for that reason we offer several Control Panels too. If you ever decide that you need another OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the present one and set up the one that you need. We also offer an optional service to keep the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
